Every day I marvel at how Pope Francis guides the church with simple and yet profound words and gestures. Let us look at these words to know and imitate our Shepherd.
1. “Exit” is about moving forward and starting the process to “re-launch a missionary Church.” A missionary Church is on the move, not stagnant, and fulfills the Gospel message by always looking out for others. Francis is a pope who speaks first of the Church looking at herself for improvement. If we have to be certain of the outcome, that means we are afraid of the open sea. But diving into the deep unknown of the water, not being bound by everyday routine is the attitude which the pope lives every day.
2. “Walk” — Our shepherd sees humanity walking together to find the way. Pope Francis sees life as an intentional pilgrimage continuously seeking God’s will in our lives, which is very different from aimless wandering.
3. “Listen” — The real effort of deep listening, of discernment, of recognizing the signs, is critical. We may find ourselves surprised, because God is the God of surprises. We need to let go of pre-conceived ideas and situations so we can embrace new ideas and concepts. The life of a Christian is never stagnant, never boring. Living in the Church of Pope Francis requires great faith and a willingness to listen and follow the will of God. Quite often that means we will be walking in unknown, uncharted territory.
4. “Meeting”— The Pope speaks of the culture of meeting others. It is a very deep and important dimension of his very nature, and he reaches out to others with passion and commitment. Francis speaks of the heart, of the person, of individual and universal values.
5. “Service” — to God, to the Church, to our neighbor. was a powerful demonstration of this when Pope Francis washed the feet of Muslim girls in a juvenile prison. We are called to seek the love of God with the attitude of Jesus to all, to actually look at people with mercy and tenderness, and to be there for others to the end. We must not be afraid to show our compassion for others.
6. “Include” — or to be against the culture of discarding people. We must not be afraid of being controversial; denouncing the marginalization, slavery, and trafficking in human beings. Pope Francis looks from the point of view of the poor and powerless and raises them up and gives them their dignity. We must recognize human frailty and our own powerlessness against both pain and discrimination and say “Who am I to judge?”
Pray that as Catholics we learn these words and that we put them into practice as Pope Francis does, witnessed by the way he lives his own life.

Palabras para entender e imitar al Papa Francisco
Todos los días quedo maravillado de como el Papa Francisco conmueve a la iglesia con sus palabras y gestos simples y profundos. Aquí algunas palabras que nos sirven para conocer e imitar a nuestro Pastor.
1. “Salida”: es hablar de “volver a lanzar una Iglesia misionera”, una Iglesia en camino, no estancada, y que mira fuera de sí para llevar el Evangelio. Es un Papa que habla en primer lugar de superación, de un concepto de iglesia autorreferencial. Entender salida quiere decir a no tener miedo del mar abierto. Esta es la actitud por la que el Papa vive cotidianamente, echando en hondo, no conformándose con la rutina cuotidiana.
2. “Caminar”: “un pastor en camino, que ve la vida como una peregrinación a la búsqueda continua de la voluntad divina en nuestra vida, muy diferente del ser errantes. Un caminar juntos, sinodal, de la humanidad para encontrar unidos el camino.
3. “Escuchar”: para dejarse sorprender, porque quien está en salida y en camino encuentra personas que no conocía y Dios es el Dios de las sorpresas. El verdadero esfuerzo del discernimiento, del reconocer los signos es algo fundamental. Así entendemos que la vida cristiana nunca es aburrida. Vivir en la Iglesia del Papa Francisco requiere una fe grandísima, significa ir a donde no sabes.
4. “Encuentro”: El Papa habla de la cultura del encuentro, se trata de una dimensión muy profunda e importante de su forma de ser y de ir hacia los demás con pasión y compromiso , Francisco habla del corazón, de la persona, de los valores individuales y universales.
5. “Servir”: a Dios, a la Iglesia, al prójimo. El ejemplo está por el gesto del lavatorio de los pies en la cárcel de menores a las chicas musulmanas. Buscando hacer llegar el amor de Dios con las actitudes de Jesús a todos: mirar a los ojos, con misericordia, ternura, ser para el otro hasta el final, sin tener miedo a demostrarlo.
6. “Incluir” o estar contra la cultura del descarte, dimensión en la que no teme ser polémico, denunciando la marginación, la esclavitud, el tráfico de seres humanos. En este sentido es un Papa que sabe mirar desde el punto de vista de los pobres e indefensos para elevarlos y darles su dignidad. Reconoce la fragilidad humana y nuestra impotencia frente a tanto dolor y discriminación, ¿“quien soy yo para juzgar?”
Estos palabras para conocer mejor y comprender la espiritualidad del Papa. Oremos para que como católicos sepamos poner en practica estas palabras que Papa Francisco nos da primero con su ejemplo de vida y como palabras que aprender.
