At Christmas, as in every Sunday, we profess with a clear and transparent faith: “For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven: and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man” (Nicene Creed).
Christmas is the celebration of a mystery that marked and continues to mark the history of humankind; that God has touched our lives and our view of faith by coming to dwell among us, actually becoming one of us, this is why it’s a mystery that touches on our existence and provokes our faith. The birth of Jesus and the salvation that the Son of God brings is always as real as the possibility to know and experience the love that God has for us: “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.” (1John 4:9)
During the Christmas liturgy, people in parishes throughout the world are reminded of the joy and the light that the birth of Jesus brings us all. We hear the words during Mass: “Today is born our Savior, Christ the Lord” … “Today a great light has come upon the earth” … “Today shines to the world the wonderful exchange which saves us”… “Today is born Jesus, today appeared the Savior on earth, today angels sing, today jump for joy the righteous “…” Today a light will shine on us, because for us was born the Lord” … .
God has come to us in that baby born in Bethlehem. We can find Him now in a now that has no end. Reflect on this — When the Eternal God entered the boundaries of time and space He made it possible for us today to encounter Him. The results of the salvation wrought by Christ are always present, affecting every man and woman of all time. When we say and hear “Today is born our Savior” we mean that God offers us “today” right now. Every one of us, is given the ability to recognize and welcome Him as did the simple shepherds of Bethlehem. He is born in our lives and renews, illuminates, and transforms us with His presence.
What a gift to us is the knowledge that the birth of Jesus and the salvation that he comes to bring is always present!
At Christmas I invite you all, in your homes and communities, to renew the devotion of meeting in front of the crib. Let us renew the joy of believing and let us share the joy of living the tenderness and love of God who wants to encounter us. God wants to meet us, to lead us to Him.
God has entered our history, becoming a human like us. He asks that we join Him in friendship and solidarity in our actions and our lives. As we celebrate the birth of the Child Jesus, we pray for all. We ask that we never lose sight of the hope of Christmas and that it never goes out of our lives.
Let us wish each other a Merry Christmas! It is the expression of the joy and peace of knowing that God is always near and wants to walk with us down the path of life. Amen.
En la Navidad como cada Domingo confesamos con fe clara y transparente según el Credo de la Iglesia: “Por nosotros, los hombres, y por nuestra salvación bajó del cielo, y por obra del Espíritu Santo se encarnó de María, la Virgen, y se hizo hombre” (Credo Niceno-Constantinopolitano).
Navidad es la celebración de un Misterio que marcó y continúa marcando la historia de la humanidad: Dios mismo vino a habitar entre nosotros, se hizo uno de nosotros, por eso es un Misterio que toca nuestra existencia y provoca nuestra fe. El Nacimiento de Jesús y la salvación que el Hijo de Dios viene a traer es siempre actual como lo es la posibilidad de conocer el amor que Dios nos tiene: “Dios ha demostrado el amor que nos tiene enviando al mundo a Su Hijo Único para que vivamos gracias a Él” (1Jn 4,9).
En la liturgia que se celebra en nuestras parroquias en el tiempo de Navidad, se repiten las palabras: “hoy nos ha nacido un Salvador, el Mesías, el Señor”… “hoy una gran luz ha bajado a la tierra”… “hoy resplandece ante el mundo el maravilloso intercambio que nos salva”… “hoy ha nacido Jesucristo, hoy ha aparecido el Salvador, hoy en la tierra cantan los ángeles, hoy saltan de alegría los justos”…“hoy brillará una luz sobre nosotros, porque nos ha nacido el Señor”…
En ese Niño nacido en Belén Dios se ha acercado a nosotros, lo podemos encontrar ahora, en un “hoy” que no tiene fin. El Eterno entró en los límites del tiempo y del espacio para hacer posible “hoy” el encuentro con Él. Los acontecimientos de la salvación realizada por Cristo son siempre actuales, afectan a cada hombre y mujer de todos los tiempos. Cuando pronunciamos y escuchamos “hoy nos ha nacido el Salvador”, queremos decir que Dios nos ofrece “hoy”, ahora, a cada uno de nosotros, la posibilidad de reconocerlo y acogerlo como hicieron los sencillos pastores de Belén, para que Él nazca en nuestra vida y la renueve, la ilumine, la transforme con su Presencia.
En la Navidad los invito a que en nuestros hogares y comunidades, nos encontremos con devoción frente al Pesebre que nos renueve la alegría de creer y la alegría de transmitir la vivencia de la ternura y el amor de Dios que se inclina sobre nosotros. Dios quiere encontrarnos, llevarnos a Él.
Dios está presente, ha entrado en nuestra historia, haciéndose hombre como nosotros y nos pide que nos convirtamos en signos de su acción siendo solidarios y justos, honestos y fraternos para hacer la amistad social.
Ante el Niño Jesús rezo por todos ustedes pidiendo que nunca se apague en sus vidas la esperanza de la Navidad.
Desearnos mutuamente ¡Feliz Navidad! es la expresión de la alegría y la paz de saber que Dios está siempre cerca a nuestros y quiere siempre recorrer con nosotros el camino de la vida. Amén.
