The first two chapters of Luke’s Gospel are known as The Infancy Narrative. The narrative consists of a carefully constructed series of parallel stories about John the Baptizer and Jesus of Nazareth.

The term “advent” in its pre-Christian meaning referred to the official visitation of the Roman emperor or his delegate to a city or state in the empire. It is appropriate that Christians use the same terminology for the visit to earth of the ultimate Emperor, the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords.

Happy Easter! American culture has almost completely secularized the celebration of Christmas. Our commercialized society takes us from “Turkey Day” (Thanksgiving) to “the Holidays” with little or no serious attention given to the birth of the Messiah!
