Retirement living can mean many things, but to priests who have retired, it seldom means sitting in the rocking chair on a porch someplace. Many of our retired priests continue to minister in parishes, celebrating liturgies for the living and the dead, visiting the sick or homebound.

Deacon Robert G.H. Lippert, 76, died Aug. 30 at his residence in Beckemeyer.

After a half century and more of studying, teaching, and writing about the Gospels, it should be possible to some extent to observe at work the mind of the author of a given Gospel. The authors are not writing biographies of Jesus but catechetical instruction about Jesus.
