Editor’s note: Each year students are invited to write a letter to the pope congratulating him on his birthday. The schools send the letters to Bishop Edward K. Braxton who chooses a letter to send to the pope. This year, a student from Holy Childhood Catholic School in Mascoutah was selected.

Celebrating anniversaries were: St. Joseph Parish in Elizabethtown (150th); St. Pancratius Parish in Fayetteville (175th); St. Joseph Parish in Lebanon (150th); St. Patrick Parish in Cairo (175th); Sacred Heart Parish in Du Quoin (150th); and Corpus Christi Parish in Shiloh (100th).
