In Catholic schools the first bell generally rings to call students to class, unless it’s Gibault Catholic high school in Waterloo where students don’t answer to bells. They just know it’s time to move to the next class.
Each year, for the past nine years, the Diocese of Belleville, through The Messenger, recognizes individuals who take their faith out of the pews and into the marketplaces where they work with and for others. This year was no exception.
Bishop Edward K. Braxton has invited Bishop Fernand Cheri III, OFM auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, to celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at 4 p.m. Oct. 17, at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Belleville.
Catechetical Sunday is Sept. 20 this year. It is the day that the church community can recognize the catechists who join with parents in passing on the faith to youngsters in their care.
