About the Messenger

The Messenger is the Catholic newspaper for the Diocese of Belleville, Illinois which covers the southern 28 counties of Illinois. The paper, founded in December 1907, is delivered to about 5,000 paid subscribers by mail and several hundred receive our e-edition. Read our 100th Anniversary article here.

Advertising Policy
Paid advertisements are accepted by The Messenger. The editor, acting under the direction of the publisher/bishop, shall have the final authority to reject any advertisement deemed unacceptable. Political advertising is not accepted at The Messenger.

Letters to the Editor Policy
The Messenger welcomes Letters to the Editor. Letters to the editor will be accepted and reviewed by the editorial staff. The Messenger reserves the right to decide whether to print any letter addressed to the editor. Further, The Messenger reserves the right to edit any letter for content or length. Letters may not contain personal attacks on individuals. No letters advocating voting for or against an individual will be accepted. Letters must be signed and include a daytime telephone number for verification.

The Messenger publishes bi-weekly. One year subscriptions are $25. Copy deadline is 10 days in advance for Special Sections and Supplements. Copy deadline for our regular editions is noon on Wednesday prior to publication date. If you require some help with your content, you can Hire a Copy Editor who can assist you with your copy.
