The Diocesan Spring Blessing of the Farm will be held beginning at 1 p.m. March 26 at the farm of Marvin and Bernice Winka in Ashley.
Marvin Winka said he was honored to have the blessing at his farm.
The Winkas both grew up on family farms and attended elementary school at St. Michael in Radom where their five children attended as well.
Marvin Winka farms with his children, raising beef cattle and grain farming as well.
Last year the spring rains pushed planting back, but Marvin Winka hopes this spring will be different. “You always hope for an early spring and a good planting season,” he said.
However, Marvin Winka said he loves what he does no matter what obstacles he must face. Because of his love for farming, he says: “I have never worked a day in my life,” because of his love for farming. Eventually, he said, “you have to turn it over to the good Lord because you don’t know what will happen.”
Although raising livestock requires an everyday commitment, the Winkas enjoy what they do.
Looking forward to the farm blessing, they hope many people will attend. Everyone is invited.
The farm is located at 4965 Jefferson County Line Road in Ashley. Please Google or Mapquest the directions and look for signs as you get close.
Those attending are invited to bring seed and soil in marked containers along with animals and farm machinery they would like to be blessed.
